5 ways to media train yourself before recording a podcast episode
Producing a podcast is a great way to build your own editorial platform, create engaging social media content & educate, inform & inspire your audience. However, recording a podcast episode can be daunting if you don’t have previous media experience. Thankfully, it’s possible to media train yourself to feel confident when presenting your podcast.
Read on to discover our advice for media training yourself & developing your speaking confidence.
1. Understand your key messages
Before you begin recording your podcast, it’s important to take plenty of time to prepare your key messages & ensure you have a strong understanding of the topics you will be covering on your podcast. If you feel assured in your subject matter, you will find it easier to speak with clarity & confidence.
2. Observe podcasters you admire
Particularly for video-based podcasters, by watching podcasters you admire, you’ll begin to notice how they communicate with their viewers. We suggest studying their delivery to begin emulating this on your podcast & ultimately become more confident by following their media-trained presentation methods.
3. Research your guests & topics
The more research you conduct into your guests’ experiences & stories, the more prepared & confident you will feel when recording your podcast episode. Investing time into this research will also make your guests feel more at ease when speaking with you, leading to a more compelling & engaging episode for your audience.
4. Practice breathing techniques
To help you feel calm & focused before your recording, take a few slow, deep breaths. This will help lower your heart rate & steady your voice, helping you feel at ease & confident in what you are about to say. Also, your calmness will reassure your guest, helping ensure you both deliver your messages with clarity.
5. Analyse your content
Media training is a continual process, so we suggest watching & listening back to your content to identify any aspects of your delivery that you may need to improve. Gradually, you’ll become more confident when presenting & build an even stronger connection with your audience.
